We are probably all familiar with fossil fuels and are probably aware that this is a non-renewable form of energy. However, from fossil fuels we can generate organic chemicals that can be used to make many different products such as cosmetics, paints and even occasionally medicines. Fossil fuels are made from fossilised remains of animals and plants that existed many millions of years before us. Because of the absence of oxygen in the earth's core, it is heat and pressure which turn these remains into pockets of crude oil and gas, which we then use as fuel.
